The new Cheshire West and Chester Conservative Group Leader is Councillor Adrian Waddelove.
The decision was announced after his unopposed election last night.
“I feel deeply privileged that colleagues have trusted me with the honour to be their leader as we begin to think of a new era for Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council and the people it exists to serve” commented Councillor Waddelove.
“And I want to pay tribute to outgoing leader Lynn Gibbon, who has worked tirelessly since her appointment, and wish her well as she continues to engage on what the Government's ideas on devolution for our area might mean.”
Turning to speak about his intentions as the new Leader, who was elected for the Farndon Ward in May 2023, explained: “After almost 10 years in charge we are all aware the Labour administration is not providing the level of service that residents deserve. And that is why we must continue to challenge their running of this Council - even if this is always more difficult from the Opposition benches.
“But I will continue to fight for those who are underserved, underappreciated and undervalued by this administration - as I have in my role in supporting the SEND Accountability Group’s demand for greater transparency and better service.
“There is much work to do but my one aim is simple. We need to work to convince local people that replacing this awful local Labour administration with a Conservative one in 2027 will be in their best interests as we become laser focused on value for money for local businesses, residents and our taxpayers.
“Labour’s manifesto last year was about hope; well, given how the first four months of the new government have gone, what hope do we have for any meaningful improvements locally?” he asked.
