Cheshire West & Chester Conservatives are challenging the Council over the delayed order and distribution of laptops to help disadvantaged children with their learning across the Borough.
Cllr Razia Daniels, Shadow Cabinet Member for Children and Families, welcomes Government funding for the 977 laptops to help disadvantaged and vulnerable children with home schooling, but was disappointed to learn that the Labour Council had not placed the order for the laptops.
Cllr Daniels commented “I contacted the Council to ask about the laptops and they confirmed that 977 devices had been pledged by Government.”
“However, over two months since schools closed, they stated orders had not yet been placed as they were still working through the technical requirements and guidance to make sure that the devices were set up correctly before they were distributed to schools and families. This was at the beginning of June.”
“I asked for an update last week but haven’t had a response - surely this information is easily and readily available?”
The Conservatives Group feel it is unacceptable that this vital help for those who need it most, hasn’t been prioritised and deployed more quickly. Neighbouring councils in Wirral and Cheshire East are well on with this project, so this delay is clearly unnecessary.
Local Conservatives are now urging the Council to rectify the situation, get the laptops ordered and ensure those most in need, get this important resource without further delay.
