The Department for Culture Media and Sport has today announced a £103 million investment from Government towards 445 heritages organisations as part of a package of financial support to protect our heritage, save jobs and help prepare for a post COVID-19 cultural bounce-back. Heritage organisations, including Chester Swimming Association (a £55,100 grant), have been awarded cash from the first round of the ‘Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage.’
Commenting on the announcement, Cheshire West and Chester Conservatives’ Shadow Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Wellbeing, Cllr. Stuart Parker, said:
“It is fantastic to see Chester Swimming Association benefiting from this practical resource from the Government. £55,100 of funding is a substantial sum of funding and we hope they will be able to achieve positive outcomes with this cash injection.
“We know how vitally important our wide heritage sector is for our wellbeing as well as helping ensure we have thriving and vibrant town and city centres. This will be even essential as we continue to emerge from such a challenging and difficult time, which we have all felt as a result of the pandemic crisis.
“Local Conservatives are delighted to see this funding support which is just the first tranche of the £1.57 billion ‘Culture Recovery Fund.’ We know how challenging the pandemic has been for many cultural and heritage sites and we believe this sort of practical assistance from government will be a crucial lifeline for many organisations and the jobs they support. As more funding support is announced in the coming months, we hope many more organisations across our borough will benefit in a similar way to Chester Swimming Association but in the meantime, well done to them!”
